What to expect in your Consultation / Therapy
The first step is a professional exchange where the client history and other relevant information such as medication is gained and an assessment made of the presenting condition. After the initial exchange the client will be invited to drink a quantity of water prior to treatment. This is an important feature of Bowen Therapy as effective fascial release requires the adequate hydration of cells and tissues. The therapist will initially make primary basic moves and then follow with a series of specific rolling moves across fascia or soft tissue associated with particular muscle groups, tendons. ligaments or nerves. A specified time interval is included between each series allowing the body to respond, thixotrophy to occur, tissues re-hydrate and its own healing process commence. During these intervals the therapist may leave the room or quietly update the patient records.
A feature of Bowen Therapy is that it can be carried out directly on the body or through light and loose clothing. Clients or therapists may have prefered approaches and this will be agreed prior to treatment.
On completion of the treatment the client, who often has already experienced pain relief, will be asked to drink additional water, will be advised of possible physical or emotional changes which may occur (that confirm the treatment has started to work) with recommendations for post treatment actions or activities, and be invited to feedback on outcomes.
Subsequent consultations will include a review of progress, possible reassessment and further advanced or refined procedures.
